SWIM MEET RESULTS:

Congratulations to all of our swimmers who participated in the Mother's Day weekend swim meet over at Linfield on Saturday May 10th.  The meet was short and sweet.  All of our swimmers participated very well.  Many best times were achieved and some of our new swimmers did a great job in their first meet ever.  Please check out the Meet Results page for all the results from the meet!

FUNDRAISING AND VOLUNTEER HOURS OPPORTUNITY:

MSC has a possible fundraising opportunity selling Alien Daze drinks for 3rd St. Pizza during the Alien Daze Parade.  Some of the parents and swimmers will be attending a meet that day.  Are there any parents that would like to take this and run with it?  This would be a great way to help the club and earn all your Volunteer hours for the year!  Please email Coach Kyle or Tara Hessel to get more information.

PARKING ISSUE:

Recently there have been some safety concerns outside the Aquatic Center at the end of practices.  Many people are coming to the pool for lessons and classes when our swimmers are leaving the pool after practice.  The parking lot is becoming very crowded and at times unsafe.  Please be sure to park legally when waiting for your kids either in a designated parking spot or the 10 minute zone by the side door.  There is additional parking over at the library and on the other side of the Chamber of Commerce.  Thanks for helping keep things safe around the pool!  The following is a letter from Aquatic Center Manager Rob Porter dated May 1st 2008.

TO:             MSC Parents

FROM:         Robert Porter, Aquatic Center Manager- Department of Parks & Recreation

SUBJECT:  Parking Issues at the Aquatic Center

The City of McMinnville Parks & Recreation Department has had a long and cooperative relationship with the McMinnville Swim Club.  A chief component of this relationship is safety. In recent months the Aquatic Center has been busy, especially in the evening. This has led to greater difficulty finding parking spaces close to the AC. Unfortunately this has led to drop-off and pick-up congestion around the crosswalk area.

A notice of this problem went out to MSC members several months ago and for a short period of time the congestion subsided. However, in the last few weeks we have seen even greater congestion. I need to make clear that this is a significant safety issue for our patrons (including MSC kids) crossing the street and for access of emergency vehicles if we have an accident.

Public parking is available on Park Drive, behind the Chamber of Commerce and in the Library parking lot. The Aquatic Center has a small (2-3 vehicle) 10 minute parking area that is specifically for pick-up and drop-off. Parking for any length of time outside of these designated areas is illegal and could result in a ticket.

While it is frustrating for some parents to park their car and walk to the AC to pick up their child, this inconvenience will seem trivial if we have a pedestrian accident or delay response to an accident because of illegally parked vehicles.

Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or problems.

Thank You

EMAIL LIST:

Anyone interested in being on an email list for MSC please contact Tara Hessel at skookum34@msn.com.  This is just another form of communication we try to have.

PLEASE GO TO THE POOL TO RECORD YOUR VOLUNTEER HOURS!

We implemented a new policy last fall that all families must record at least 10 hours per year of volunteer work.  This can be recorded in the Volunteer log book at the pool.  Please remember that our fiscal year runs from September to August.  Ten hours need to be recorded between these months.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 ADDITIONAL NOTE ON VOLUNTEER HOURS:

Because this is a new policy set up last year, the board would like to extend the opportunity for any member that was confused about this obligation to make up the hours.  If you would like to make up the ten hours from last year and have that amount subtracted from the bill, please contact Coach Kyle or one of the treasurers.  This will have to be made up in addition to the volunteer hours for this current fiscal year.  Thanks for helping our team!
